An adventure that is unique, and each day is a new discovery. I remember my first moment on the USA courts. I couldn’t describe the feeling of amazement I felt in that moment. I was suddenly in a new world, almost an alien one, but also evokes a sense of appreciation for the little things in everyday life. I came across individuals I wouldn’t have met otherwise. My life has been filled with an endless amount of experiences. The way you see your life shapes your life. Meeting people with incredible stories has made me realize how often our limitations are self-imposed, and our lack of knowledge or lack of opportunity to discover new things is the reason.
I sought out for adventure, radical change and the challenge of adjusting to a completely different environment, the challenge was not only to adjust, but also to be a part of and accepted in such an exceptional location. The ‘basketball’ in italy has written and unwritten rules, conventions, and practices that ‘are held in place’ by people, ‘laws, game rules, and a governing body’. I was supposed to paint between the lines. I wanted to change that. To celebrate basketball and bring it out of the shadows. Outside the ‘conventional duty’. But I was worried what other coaches and trainers would think if I went against the established way of doing things. So I moved to the edges of conventional basketball.
I began working in action and adventure basketball, a frontier where it seemed like the rules were still being written. I’m not attempting to flee from something, but rather, I’m in search of something. I am always looking for new experiences. The world is too wide to always remain in your comfort zone. Putting yourself out there is essential to discovering your limits.
The basketball process can be observed as if one were observing a canvas of a picture that has not yet been painted. When someone observes a painted picture, they don’t pay attention to the canvas’s texture, but rather to its shapes, colors, and perspectives. The painter’s awesomeness of color combinations and formalities, as well as the visual story that permeates the painting, intrigue him. Any vision without support, not only the canvas, even if it were air, would be impossible.
The purpose of this work is to discuss not only basketball but the man, his emotional organization. For example, I would like to point out that our intimate and relationship experiences happen one step at a time. It is possible for them to blend together, but we cannot experience them at the same time. I want to show their power as a weakness and their weakness as a power, aiming to dismantle simplistic binaries that dominate public discourse.
My approach is not to dictate the reader’s interpretation, but to provoke thought and introspection on the complexities of identity and human connection.
The more stories we tell, the fuller the picture we can build.
That ‘canvas’ that brings to life the emotional colors of Basketball.
