ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD EFFECTS
Technological devices have become essential components of daily life. However, their deleterious effects on the body, particularly on the nervous system, are well known. Electromagnetic fields (EMF) have various chemical effects, including causing deterioration in large molecules in cells and imbalance in ionic equilibrium. Despite being essential for life, oxygen molecules can lead to the generation of hazardous by-products, known as reactive oxygen species (ROS), during biological reactions. These reactive oxygen species can damage cellular components such as proteins, lipids and DNA. Antioxidant defense systems exist in order to keep free radical formation under control and to prevent their harmful effects on the biological system. Free radical formation can take place in various ways, including ultraviolet light, drugs, lipid oxidation, immunological reactions, radiation, stress, smoking, alcohol and biochemical redox reactions. Oxidative stress occurs if the antioxidant defense system is unable to prevent the harmful effects of free radicals. Several studies have reported that exposure to EMF results in oxidative stress in many tissues of the body. The biological effect of exposure to EMF is a subject of particular research interest. The results of the recent studies not only clearly demonstrate that EMF exposure triggers oxidative stress in various tissues, but also that it causes significant changes in levels of blood antioxidant markers. Fatigue, headache, decreased learning ability, and cognitive impairment are among the symptoms caused by EMF. The human body should therefore be protected against exposure to EMF because of the risks this can entail.
The antioxidant defense system and EMF Electromagnetic field. Antioxidant defense systems have developed in organisms to control the formation of free radicals and to prevent the harmful effects of these molecules. These antioxidants reduce or impair the damage mechanism of ROS via their free radical scavenging activities.
Catalase (CAT) - CAT is a common enzyme present in organisms exposed to oxygen, such as vegetables, fruits and animals. It catalyzes the reaction that degrades hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen. It is a crucial enzyme in the protection of the cell against oxidative damage caused by ROS. CAT exerts its peroxidase activity in vivo.
Glutathione - It is an endogenous antioxidant and an important cellular defense agent against oxidative damage. Glutathione reacts with the free radicals in the cell and reduces the entry of hydrogen peroxides. Glutathione is a peptide found in plants and animals. It is a powerful antioxidant produced by the liver to protect the body against free radicals, peroxides, and heavy metals. Glutathione helps to eliminate poisons such as drugs and pollutants from our bodies. It reduces liver damage.
Vitamin E (tocopherol) - It is one of the most important such antioxidants. (avocados, almonds, pumpkin, peanuts, peanut butter, spinac, red bell pepper)
Vitamin B9 (folic acid and folate) - It is crucial for several functions in the human body, ranging from the production of nucleotides to homocysteine remethylation. In humans, folate is required for the body to make or repair DNA. (dark green leafy vegetables as spinach, asparagus, turnip, broccoli, milk, lier, orange, kiwi and lemon)
Quercetin - It is found in abundant quantities in Chia seeds. It has high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Reduce arterial hypertension, prevent upper respiratory infections, reduce the risk of carcinogenesis. Quercetin shows a strong antioxidant activity by maintaining oxidative balance.
NAC, Acetyl-cysteine - It is one of the most important such antioxidants. It is essential for creating and replenishing glutathione. Glutathione is one of the most important antioxidants, (the human body naturally produces glutathione in the liver. However its levels naturally decrease with age) they help neutralize free radicals that can damage cells and tissues in the body. It is also essential for boosting the health of the immune system and fighting cell damage. Some researchers believe, it can even prolong life. Its antioxidant properties are important in fighting many other diseases caused by oxidative stress, such as heart disease, infertility and some mental illness .
